transitions

Happy Thursday! Hope you're having a good week!

I could have a lot to say about transitions right now. I could write about the fact that I'm transitioning off my current team onto a new team in my office next week. I could write about how overwhelmed I am by the work that I need to get done before then. I could write about how sad I am to leave a team I learned so much on for over a year or I could write about how completely ecstatic I am for my new role and new challenges.  I could write about how this new job means I'm committing to staying in DC for at least a few more years and how I ought to transition from calling DC my "home away from home" to calling it my "home". I could write about how scary it is to fully own that DC is my home not just a transition place for me. I could write about how hard it is for me to say out loud that I don't know when I'll be moving back to California because Aaron and I are building a really special life together here.

But no, that is way too heavy for a blog post and I just want to write about how challenged I am by dressing for transition weather! The sun is finally consistently shining around these parts but the temperatures haven't quite reached spring temps. It is supposed to finally warm up this weekend but for the past few days it has been too warm for black tights but too cold for bare legs. It's not quite warm enough for a spring trench but too warm for a coat. I'm also not quite ready to send my favorite boots to the back of the closet! So what is a girl to do? I suppose wear all of her favorite fall layering pieces one.last.time. And with that, I bid you adieu riding boots, boot socks and academy blazers. Thank you for helping me with this weather transition. I will see you in a few months.

But is that you, my dear friend Versa Spa spray tan machine, right over there? Yes? Great, I'll see you this weekend.

I said on Monday I'm not really a green person and then I remembered I had this blazer hiding in the back of my closet waiting for spring to appear. I decided to stop waiting for spring and just start wearing my favorite spring colors despite the snow on the ground in the background of these pictures. Take that Mother Nature.

Once upon a time, I lived next door to Violet Boutique which for many reasons, proximity included, quickly became one of my favorite stores in DC. Let me tell you though, living next door to your favorite and affordable boutique is really a slippery slope. Factor in living on a block with cheap happy hour drinks, it becomes outright dangerous. There were far too many Friday nights after happy hour when the roommates and I went shopping in our "Violet closet" rather than our own closet or couldn't find a purse that matched so we would just go buy one next door. It was a little out of control. This blazer was definitely my favorite Violet purchase-- I had been looking for a brightly colored blazer for Aaron's law school graduation for weeks and when I saw it on the mannequin in the window, I knew it was fate. Or at least that's what I told myself when I asked to buy the last one off the mannequin.

a dash of green

Happy St. Patrick's Day, friends! I'm not much of a green person so an army vest is going to have to be good enough for ya. Take it or leave it.

I celebrated on Saturday with friends who were having a day party which was perfect because it was so freaking beautiful out. Side note: it is snowing as I type this. Go home DC weather, you're drunk.  When plans were being made to head to the bars, this girl right here excused herself because she had plans to go the gym in the morning. Yes, you read that right. Rather than going out to the bars like every other 20 something in DC, I went home, had some tea and went to bed at 11 so I could be sure to make it to the gym the next day. WHO AM I?!

Perhaps it was a sign of maturity (ha) because in hindsight, St. Patrick's Day has never really been too good to me. Let's not head down memory lane or anything; just trust me when I say that green beer is not my friend. Think Kristin Cavallari frenemy status. <----- I've been rewatching The Hills recently. Don't judge.
